So lets talk about Hot Toys' 1/6 Scale The Joker (Bank Robber 2.0 Version)
now I have owned the first edition and now own the second edition of this figure. There are things that I like and love about each one as well things that I think could be better if they incorporated something from the other figure. Usually when you have a "2.0" version of a certain figure you have usually made it better, correct? Well lets go over the figure.
I love the box! I was very happy to see the artwork on the box and how they they incorporated the face under the mask. so when you first look at the box when everything is covered up you can see the eyes through the mask. so I was pleasantly surprised to see when I pulled the lid off of the box that the eyes were not part of the the lid, but was part of the slip cover under the lid. I thought that was pretty awesome to see the Jokers face underneath. Heath Ledger played such a great Joker I am glad they keep doing these products of him. The artwork on the box is wonderful and full of color. I am not sure if all the boxes have the sticker exactly where mine is placed. I don't like that the sticker is placed kind of off centered in the box and not in a corner like Sideshow usually does with their exclusive stickers. The best place for the sticker to be placed to me would be the top right corner. I wish that Hot Toys' would put texture on the boxes like they have done with previous boxes, especially like the did with their first Bank Robber Joker figure. That is one thing I would like to see with this box but honestly everyone do you care about the box as much as I do? probably not. But with that being said I know their are divisions in companies that spend a lot of time figuring out what looks best for a box. They want the appeal to be there.
Now we can't all have a head sculpt with the "PERS" (Parallel Eye Rolling System) system, even though it would be nice. I wish that this head did have the PERS system because I think that if you are going to make an exclusive figure you would go all out with the figure. That being said I don't think the head sculpts is all that bad, in fact it is a very nice sculpt. The head sculpt looks like they have really upped the ante on their sculpts. Each figure comes with a greater sculpt and we are getting an amazing sculpt with the Joker (Bank Robber 2.0 Version) I love the fact that Hot Toys is getting so much better at smearing the paint so well. The paint application actually looks like it is real and the way it looks like in Batman: The Dark Knight movie. We all know that paint is going to smear especially when you place a mask on top of the paint like the Joker has in the opening scene of the movie. I am very happy with the head sculpt. I wouldn't take anything away from it. The Joker head sculpts of the Joker keep getting better and better with every product that Hot Toys puts out!
Clothing keeps getting better and better. Hot Toys' keeps finding more material that sits better on the figure. The material that was used before seemed thick and wouldn't look like clothing should look like on a real person. If you look at figures for 12 inch figures that are made by companies like Hasbro you see that they can't put much on a figure, clothing wise because because they are using cloth that is thick and won't sit right on a action figure body. Hot Toys is continually looking for material that is thinner and easy to manipulate. The suit coat and pants on the 2.0 Bank Robber Joker is phenomenal! the material feels like silk to me. I don't move my figures around a lot when I open them so I honestly don't know how durable the material is. There are people that will pose their figure in many poses and will need durable material. I am not one of those people. I pose the figure how I want them and leave them posed in that position for months, sometimes years. I find a pose that I am happy with and I stick with it. I feel like the material might not be as durable as the previous material used for the first Bank Robber Joker but I would rather have a figure that has clothing that actually looks like what clothing should look like on a body as if it was a person sitting in front of you.
I love the detail that Hot Toys in putting in on their shoes/feet. These shoes look 100 times better than the previous predecessor had. The detail that is put into the shoes is amazing. The shoes have wonderful tread on the bottom. Even though when you display you figure standing up you will never see the tread on the bottom of his shoes. So why should I care? I look at the amount of detail that a company puts in for one of their products shows you how much they care about their product. You can tell they care about their figures.
I have never been a fan of the huge back drops that Hot Toys puts with their figures. I feel like they are not needed. They are a fun idea but if you do a big back drop then you will have a huge stand that is not needed as well. I love Hot Toys' generic stands that are black, little, and have a small nameplate with the characters name on it, and then on the base of the stand their is a logo from the movie/ game/ television series that the figure is from. I think that Hot Toys did a wonderful job on the stand and the backdrop. I don't like how much space it takes up though. So I will be on the hunt for the original stand that comes with the first edition of the Bank Robber Joker, and I will do this because I want it to match the rest of my figures on display.
Well the accessories are pretty generic. You are getting pretty much everything that you get with any other Joker figure made by Hot Toys. You are getting the sawed off shotgun, knife, pistol, stack of Joker $100 dollar bills, and stack of Joker face cards. Now what is super cool about this figure are the non generic accessories that they have included with this figure. I love the upgraded blue bag they give you with this figure.
I wanted to give you a look of the holder bag next to the new Bank Robber Joker bag. Can you see the difference? Now with the older bag you were given a total of 7 ordinances. With the new bag you get a total of 16 ordinances. Huge difference. The old bag contained a soft foam type piece that held the grenades in place. The grenades stood straight up and had Styrofoam underneath it all. Now take a look at the new bag. WOW! The grenades sit perfectly in the bag. Hot Toys really took advantage of the space inside the bag. I will be honest with you I was a little scared to put the grenades inside the bag on the plastic tray that fits in the bag. There are little C hooks that go around the top of the grenades and hold it securely in place. When I was placing it on the C hooks I felt like I was going to break the grenades and the little pins on the side of the grenades. After much time worrying about the pins on the grenades I found out that they are not glued on the grenades like I thought they would be, but in fact they give a little and are easily placed on the black rack. They improved the blue bag immensely!
I love the fact that they give you a watch to go with the figure. Its the little things that really make this figure awesome. As soon as I saw the watch I thought in my head that I could reenact the scene in the movie when the Joker is looking at his watch and sliding to the side because he knows that the school bus is coming through the wall, and wants to be out of the way. Very cool scene and just makes you chuckle a little. So I thought it was pretty nice that they give you a watch to put on his wrist.
Lets talk about the masked head sculpt. Absolutely do not like this addition to the figure. Now let me explain myself because don't get me wrong, the head sculpt is done very well and has wonderful detail. What I don't like about this head sculpt is that the mask does not come off the head. I love that on the first edition of this figure, the mask came off and that it had another head sculpt on underneath. I know now that I am going to have to pay top dollar for a head sculpt and the Joker mask to go with it just so I can create more scenes from the movie if I want to, which I DO want to. I love the first edition mask because it came off and could be put in his hand, you could create the scene in the movie where he is waiting for his ride at the corner, so many things you can do with this figure if the mask can come off, and on the 2.0 version this is not possible. I am not sure why Hot Toys decided against that idea of being able to do it because I think it deterrs people away from buying this figure and will be at www.Sideshowtoy.com or other official distributors for Hot Toys Product. So I guess that is good news for the sum of you that have not purchased this product as of yet, because most likely this product will sit in Sideshow's warehouse for some time until they decide to give you the figure with free shipping and at a discounted price. So if you are patient enough then you will be able to get this figure at a lower price and save you some bucks. I have noticed also when a product doesn't sell very well on Sideshow's website they will then do giveaways for the figure on Facebook, or Twitter. so look for that in the future as well.
Overall I am happy with this figure. I would probably give it a 7 out of a 10 Just because I hate the fact that the Joker mask doesn't come off of the face and forces me to buy either the first edition of this figure, which has now gone insanely up in prices in the second market, or Buy the pieces which I want from the second market that can also cost me almost as much as it will to buy the whole first edition figure. So I will probably buy the first edition of this figure again, since I was stupid enough to sell mine off once I heard the news that they were releasing a "2.0" edition of this figure. Well I guess I should have dug more into the figure to find out what exactly what they were making better and what they were taking away from the figure.
So of course I am no expert at knowing what people like in figures, and that I can only tell you what I like and don't like about my figures.
if you have any questions or comments please leave them here so I can strike up a conversation with ya.
